The Swan River Valley is remote, with a rugged Montana feel. The wide, timbered valley stretches 90 miles from Bigfork at the north to the Blackfoot River at the south. Montana Highway 83 runs the length of the valley, making the drive just over an hour to Kalispell and Missoula from the deepest parts of the valley. It was on the shore of Swan Lake that Montana’s Copper Barons built the historic Kootenai Lodge, which is now a private development that offers high-end cabins and homes.
Running between the Swan Mountains and the Mission Mountains, the Swan River meanders the length of the northern portion of the valley, where it empties into Swan Lake and ultimately into Flathead Lake. The river offers excellent fishing for native cutthroat trout and rainbow trout, while Swan Lake is loaded with trout, kokanee and northern pike.
The residential real estate possibilities are endless in the Swan River Valley, from a remote Montana cabin to a large-acre spread. Let the professionals at Montana West Realty show you the nooks and crannies of Montana’s Swan River Valley.
